Charms Celebrate 40th Anniversary

The Tomball High School Cougar Charms Drill Team plans to celebrate 40 years of dancing, memories, fun, and friendships on Friday, October 3.  All Charms from 1975 through the present are invited to join the festivities, which include a halftime performance and a reception honoring the Charms.

“The Charms have been part of Tomball High School for decades,” Charms Director Brittany Melton said.  “This is a wonderful way to honor our past and reunite with former drill team members.”

An Alumni Reception for all past and present members of the Charms organization will immediately follow halftime of the Stratford vs. Tomball High School varsity football game on Friday, October 3, at 7 p.m.  The reception will be held in the Tomball High School Lower Lobby, 30330 Quinn Road.  The registration form to attend the reception can be found on the Charms website.  For a $25 donation, those who register will also receive an anniversary t-shirt including the names of all former Cougar Charms.  Snacks will also be provided.

Those who graduated as Charms are invited to participate in the Alumni Dance, which will take place during the halftime of the football game.  Rehearsal for the routine will be Thursday, October 2, from 6-8 p.m.  All participants will meet in the Lower Lobby at the back entrance of Tomball High School.

Former Charms are looking forward to the big event.  Former Captain Kelley McNiel served as a Charm during the 1980s.  She recalled fond memories of dancing at the Astrodome and in the THS Commons.  “I’m excited about having the opportunity to see friends from the past and joining the current Charms on the field for the halftime performance,” McNiel said.

Current Cougar Charm Major Beth Horton, senior, is also looking forward to the celebration.  “I’m excited to see how the legacy of the drill team has impacted so many lives in our community, and I’m looking forward to meeting the former Charms.”

The Charms continue to maintain a tradition of excellence in the classroom and on the competition floor.  Melton explained that the organization remains strong.  “Through pride, outstanding work ethics, and high standards, the Charms have been able to excel in dance.  It’s an honor to watch as the girls become confident young ladies who are ready to face our ever-changing society.  I’m so proud of them, our history, and our promising future.”

Additional information about the reception and the registration form to perform in the Alumni Dance are available on the Charms website at or by calling 281-357-3220, ext. 2356.

Tomball STAGE Celebrates 20th Season

The Tomball High School (THS) Theatre Arts Department, also known as The Tomball STAGE, is celebrating a major milestone for the Leonard Chambers Fine Arts Wing and the THS Auditorium.  In 1994, the students of the Theatre Arts Department began a new mission that shaped the department’s identity – STAGE, an acronym for Stagecraft and Theatre Arts for the Gift of Entertainment.  All of the students who have become members of the organization have committed themselves to live up to that mission by recognizing their efforts as a gift or by conducting acts of giving to THS and the Tomball community.  The 2014-2015 season will honor past accomplishments and celebrate the 20th Anniversary milestone.

The opening production is Ken Ludwig’s hilarious comedy Moon Over Buffalo, which opened on Broadway 20 years ago.  This laugh-fest originally starred Carol Burnett and Phillip Bosco in the leading roles.  THS performances of Moon Over Buffalo will be September 18-20 and 22 at 7 p.m.

The second production of the season is a classic that was performed at THS in 2003.  The Wizard of Oz will be presented by the entire THS Fine Arts Department, and will celebrate the 75th Anniversary of this Hollywood blockbuster.  The production will include all of the favorite musical numbers and characters from the original movie.  Performances will be November 13-15 and 18 at 7 p.m. and November 15 at 3 p.m.  The November 14-15 performances will feature a silent auction to benefit the Senior Scholarship Fund and the Theatre Arts Department.  Also, all former Tomball STAGE students are invited to attend the 7 p.m. performance on November 15 to celebrate the Tomball STAGE anniversary.  A reception will be held following the performance in the upper lobby.

The THS Annual Talent Show will be February 5-6 at 7 p.m.  The 18th Annual Dinner Theatre will be held April 14.  Dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m. and the performance will begin at 7 p.m.  The student-produced Night of Scenes will close the season on May 8-9 at 7 p.m. and May 7, 9 and 11 at 3 p.m.

All performances will be held in the Tomball High School Auditorium, 30330 Quinn Road, except Night of Scenes, which will take place in the Black Box Theatre.

Season tickets for all productions and season sponsorships can be purchased at under the Membership Tab.  Those who purchase sponsorships will receive season tickets, preferential seating, complimentary reminders, and recognition in all programs.
