Welcome to the THS College & Career Center page!  My name is Emily Nichols, the College and Career Counselor for THS.  I have been in Tomball ISD since 2007, and began my career in education in 1999.  I graduated from Sam Houston State University with a BA in Fashion Merchandising, and a minor in Business.  In 2004 I received my Masters of Education in School Counseling from Sam Houston State University.
 
I am here to meet your students college and career needs.  Students are always welcome in Cougar Corner (College & Career Center).  Parents may simply contact me and schedule an appointment.  I work with all grade levels in different areas of college and career readiness throughout each year.  Many events will be held each year for students to learn more about post high school options, careers, financial aid, and much more.  Make sure you check out the many resources I have posted for you.  The Links section is organized by area of interest with many helpful links for students and parents.
 
I am the Dual Credit Coordinator for our campus.  You will find helpful information on Dual Credit for our campus. We partner with Lone Star College, Tomball.  Our LSC Dual Credit Advisor is Erica Clark.

Seniors attending Lone Star College, but haven't applied yet?

Seniors,
 
If you plan on attending Lone Star College after graduation and have not completed your application, please sign up to participate in the event on Tuesday, April 12th.  The LSC Mobile Go Unit will be on campus to assist you with application and/or FAFSA.  Seniors who still need to complete the FAFSA may also attend the event.

For JUNIORS interested in the University of Texas!

A representative from UT will be on campus Friday, April 8th to visit with prospective applicants in the class of 2017.  The session will be from 9 to 9:30 am in the Career Center.  Sign up today in the Career Center OR through Family Connection (www.tinyurl.com/thsnaviance).

Wonder Works Pre-College Programs in Arts, Literature, and Film for High School Students

University of Houston and Rice University are offering summer Pre-College programs June 13-July 15, 2016. Check out the website for more details! 
 

Citizens Fire Acedemy 2016

Tomball Fire Department Citizen's Fire Academy is an extension of the Community Emergency Response Training (CERT), which is hosted by TFD and presented by the Harris County Citizen Corps Program.  The course is 16 weeks, and provides a wide variety of experience and overview.

SFASU Pre-Law Academy

Stephen F. Austin State University is offering a Pre-Law Academy this summer from June 5-11, 2016.  This is the only Pre-Law Academy in Texas designed for high school juniors and seniors.

Texas Tech University - Camp L.E.A.D. for Leadership Education and Development

Texas Tech University's Camp L.E.A.D. will be held August 2, 2016-August 5, 2016.  Students will participate in activities ranging from individualized leadership sessions to group challenges and team building activities.  
 
All expenses, including transportation, housing, and curriculum materials are provided at no cost to students who are admitted to the program.
 
Admission to Camp L.E.A.D. is highly selective. Students should apply and submit documentation regarding their leadership abilities no later than the given deadline of April 1, 2016.  To be considered, students must meet the following requirements:
  • Grade Level - must be an incoming high school senior in the fall of 2016
  • Academic Performance - student's high school counselor will need to submit an internal form regarding the student's academic performance.  Students will also be asked to self-report SAT/ACT scores
  • Community Involvement - must be an active member of the community and involved in extracurricular activities
  • Leadership - must have a proven desire to be a leader
Students should apply at www.camplead.ttu.edu.  Applications must be submitted by 5 pm on Friday, April 1, 2016.
