Welcome to the THS College & Career Center page!  My name is Emily Nichols, the College and Career Counselor for THS.  I have been in Tomball ISD since 2007, and began my career in education in 1999.  I graduated from Sam Houston State University with a BA in Fashion Merchandising, and a minor in Business.  In 2004 I received my Masters of Education in School Counseling from Sam Houston State University.
I am here to meet your students college and career needs.  Students are always welcome in Cougar Corner (College & Career Center).  Parents may simply contact me and schedule an appointment.  I work with all grade levels in different areas of college and career readiness throughout each year.  Many events will be held each year for students to learn more about post high school options, careers, financial aid, and much more.  Make sure you check out the many resources I have posted for you.  The Links section is organized by area of interest with many helpful links for students and parents.
I am the Dual Credit Coordinator for our campus.  You will find helpful information on Dual Credit for our campus. We partner with Lone Star College, Tomball.  Our LSC Dual Credit Advisor is Erica Clark.

Junior Achievement Offshore Technology Conference Scholarship

Scholarship opportunity for high school seniors pursuing a career in offshore oil and gas

The Junior Achievement/Offshore Technology Conference Scholarship Program is awarding eight $10,000 scholarships to students planning to work in the offshore oil and gas industry at any post-secondary education, including certificate programs, community colleges, universities, or technical education. The deadline for Houston-area high school seniors to apply is Oct. 7.


Eligibility requirements

  • Student must be a high school senior in the Houston-area during the 2016-2017 school year
  • Student plans to seek further education at a post-secondary education institution in the United States to pursue a job in the offshore oil and gas industry
  • Student’s education plans have been challenged due to financial issues caused by the downturn in the industry

How to apply

  • Download and complete the application (see attached document), and obtain required letters of recommendation
  • Submit the application to JA on or before 5 p.m. Oct. 7. All applications must be received by this deadline to be considered.

Scholarship winners will be selected* on or before Nov. 1. All scholarships will be paid directly to the school in the name of the awardee upon proof of admission.

Rock the PSAT!

Princeton Review is offering THS students a great opportunity to Rock the Test for the PSAT in 2016!  

Sign up for a FREE PSAT Practice Test on September 24th from 9 am to 12 pm and a FREE Scores Back Session on September 26th from 3 to 4 pm.  Students may sign up for this event in the Career Center, Rm 1102.

Students also have an opportunity to take a 9 hour Princeton Review PSAT Boot Camp.  You will learn test taking tips, pacing strategies, and much more.  The cost of the PSAT Boot Camp is $249 (using the promo code).  Please use the Promo Code for a $50 discount on the PSAT Boot Camp!  The dates for the PSAT Boot Camp are October 1, October 8, and October 15 from 9 am to 12 pm.

Texas A&M Housing Scholarship Opportunity

Carnegie Mellon University Information Session

Come learn more about Carnegie Mellon University during an information session for students and their families.  Sessions are an hour long and will discuss their colleges and programs, admission, financial aid, and campus life.  You'll also have a chance to meet other students who are considering Carnegie Mellon University.

What Can I Do With This Major?

Are you unsure what you might major in?  Do you have a favorite subject area and wonder what you might do as a career if you major in that subject area?
What Can I Do With This Major is a very helpful resource!  Uncover the mystery in some majors pertaining to what careers could lay in store for you.  There are printable and links for you to be able to print and explore more.

College Campus Events

I've compiled a list of college campus events on the home page of my website. Simply click on the title "College Campus Preview and Open House Events" to view the spreadsheet.  Colleges are listed alphabetically with event dates and a link to register for the events.
Keep checking the spreadsheet or the college website as events will continually be added/dates posted throughout the year!
*Remember that students have two college visit days in the junior year and an additional two senior year. College visit days cannot roll over to the next year if not used.  Students need to see Mrs. Nichols in the Career Center prior to their college campus visit to make sure they turn in the proper paperwork for visits to be excused.

College Presentation for Students and Parents

Join admission representatives from Emory University, Johns Hopkins University, the University of Notre Dame, and the University of Virginia for a group presentation.  Learn more about academic programs, student life, admission, and financial aid at these institutions.  There will be time for questions and to meet representatives at the end.
