In Chemistry, students conduct laboratory investigations, learn scientific problem-solving, and develop critical thinking. We will study topics that include atomic structure, chemical reactions, the periodic table of elements, behavior of gases, and properties of solutions, acids, and bases. Students will also investigate how chemistry is an integral part of their daily lives.
It is important that students realize that chemistry is a concept-oriented course that emphasizes problem-solving. This can be a real challenge for students who have relied on memorization techniques in other classes. Practice and perseverance on the student’s part are essential. I strongly encourage students to become actively involved in this class by participating, asking questions, and attending tutorials. Parents – please take advantage of the online grade viewer, and monitor grades closely! If you don’t know how to check grades online, please contact your child’s counselor.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. The best way to get in touch with me is by email. I check my email several times a day at school, and on weekends and in the evenings as well. You can also contact me by phone, but the phone does not ring during the school day, so you’ll have to leave a message. I communicate regularly with parents via email as well.
