Attendance & Absences

Regular school attendance is essential for a student to make the most of his or her education—to benefit from teacher-led and school activities, to build each day’s learning on the previous day’s, and to grow as an individual. Absences from class may result in serious disruption of a student’s mastery of the instructional materials; therefore, the student and parent should make every effort to avoid unnecessary absences.    


Absence Procedures

  • Students are expected to get to school on time. 
  • When a student is absent from school, the student—upon arrival or return to school—must submit a note signed by the parent/guardian that describes the reason for the absence. The note must be turned in within 3 days of the student’s return to school. The note must be either:
    • sent by email from the email address the campus has on file for the parent/guardian to THSattendance@tomballisd.net, or
    • turned in by the student to the Attendance Office located in the Cafeteria.
  • Students arriving late to school are considered tardy with the exception of a late school bus. 
  • Students who sign out during the school day and return the same day must check back in through the Attendance Office with a medical or parent/guardian note in order to be marked present for the remainder of the day.
  • All communication with the THS Attendance Office should be sent to THSattendance@tomballisd.net.

Early Check Out Procedures

Use the THS Early Student Checkout form to request an early check-out for your student. All requests through this form must be submitted by  1:00 PM, and students must be signed out no later than 2:15 PM. 

All of the information required to check out your student will be prompted within the form, helping us eliminate delays or the need for follow-up calls. Please note that you’ll be asked to upload a copy of your ID each time you submit a request. This step is required for security purposes.  

  • The attendance office will give the student a temporary pass which will allow the student to be dismissed from class five minutes prior to the pick-up time indicated on the parent note.
  • Students will return to the attendance office to sign out and will receive a yellow dismissal pass. The dismissal pass allows students to exit the building through the front as a car rider or through the Lower Lobby as a student driver.

*If a pre-arranged early check-out via the THS Early Student Checkout form is not possible, the legal guardian must sign the student out through the front office.

*Emails or handwritten notes ARE NOT accepted for early check-outs. All early check-out requests must be submitted through the THS Early Student Checkout form.

*All form requests must be submitted by 1:00 PM.

*Students must be signed out by a parent or guardian no later than 2:15 PM.
